Corralejo Reposado Tequila

Get out your lime and salt, because it’s tequila time!

Corralejo’s Reposado Tequila has glowing reviews and is one of our personal favorites. If you’re looking for an approachable, smooth tequila, you’ve come to the right place.

Here are some of our favorite things about Corralejo Reposado Tequila.

Aging (Resting)

The first thing that makes this tequila unique is the aging (or resting) process. Reposado tequila is a specific type of tequila that is “rested” (or reposado in Spanish) for at least two months in barrels. The resting process can continue for up to a year.

Corralejo Reposado Tequila is no exception to this rule. It spends four months resting in American oak wood.

Unlike bourbon, which gets its flavor from the barrel, tequila gets its taste from the core of an agave plant. Corralejo roasts their agave plants for twenty-seven hours to bring out the plant’s signature flavor.

Another unique aspect of Corralejo Reposado Tequila is the distillation process used by Corralejo. It’s called the Charentais method, and it’s usually used for French cognac.

Corralejo Brand

The Corralejo brand in and of itself is worth learning about. Founded in 1755, Hacienda Corralejo was the first in the state of Mexico to produce tequila commercially.

Not only is Hacienda Corralejo a distillery, but it’s also a hub of history, culture, and learning with a specific focus on Mexican culture and creation.

Appearance & Flavor Profile

When it comes to appearances, it’s hard to beat this tall, slender bottle. (Just be careful not to knock it over!)

Once poured, the tequila has a pale amber color.

You’ll find a wealth of complex smells and tastes with Corralejo Reposado Tequila. At first scent, you’ll sense hints of honey, caramel, baked pear, vanilla, and a dash of mild white pepper.

When put to a taste test, this tequila offers gentle hints of butter, citrus fruits, honey, and mint. Overall, it has a mild vanilla flavor combined with a hint of fruity agave and citrus.

The Finish (AKA: The Burn)

Living up to its rested reputation, Corralejo Reposado Tequila goes down smooth and easy.

That’s not to say there’s no kick to it—you’ll still get that signature tequila burn. But this is a pleasant, mild burn that even a tequila amateur could handle.

How to Drink It

Now that you know a bit about the tequila, you’re probably wondering the best way to enjoy it. There are a few options, all of which have merit.

Sip It

Most experts agree that if you’re going to sip tequila, you’d better do so neatly. To add water or ice to it will dilute its flavors and ultimately dampen the complexity of the flavors.

Shoot It

Don’t you dare? This stuff is way too good not to be savored!

Mix It

Straight liquor, not your style? Try mixing Corralejo Reposado Tequila into an excellent margarita.

Corralejo Reposado Tequila: Worth the Hype?

In short, the answer is YES!

This tequila offers a complex flavor profile without some of the sharper edges that other tequilas have.

If tequila’s not usually your thing, go ahead and give this one a try anyway. Corralejo Reposado Tequila is a great way to introduce (or reintroduce) yourself to the tequila family.
