Drinks You Need to Celebrate Mexican Independence Day

The equivalent of the 4th of July in the US, the 16th of September each year, is Mexican Independence day, reserved for honoring the country’s fight for independence from Spain.

Mexican Independence Day is a day filled with family, food, and plenty of fun. Mariachi bands and colorful parades are common sights—and of course, there’s plenty of delicious drinks.

If you’d like to celebrate Mexican Independence Day in your own way, why not do so with some tasty Mexican food and some festive and refreshing drinks? Read on for four drinks that are sure to get you in the fiesta mood.

Frozen Pineapple Margaritas

No list of Mexican Independence Day drinks would be complete without a healthy glug of tequila. And that’s exactly what these frozen pineapple margaritas bring to the table. For this recipe, you need:

You can garnish with a lime or pineapple wedge. They’re tangy and refreshing, with just a hint of alcohol peeking through. Best of all, they’re only four ingredients. Just stick them in a blender and go!

Tequila Punch

This Mexican twist on a Caribbean punch cocktail is guaranteed to be a hit at any Mexican Independence Day celebration. Per this recipe, the main ingredient is tequila; however, you can substitute the alcohol for any other kind you like. All you need is:

  • 3 oz Patron Tequila
  • 1 oz Lemonade
  • 1 oz Orange Juice
  • 2 oz Fruit Punch
  • 1/2 fresh lime juice

The great thing about this recipe is that you can make a large batch to have enough for everyone in attendance to enjoy.

Mezcal Strawberry Lemonade Cocktails

When you think festive, it’s these boozy strawberry lemonade cocktails that immediately spring to mind. This cocktail is fruity, refreshing, and it’s definitely one that will leave you wanting more. Here is the recipe:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar (we used beet sugar)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 oz Los Amantes Mezcal

Throw into the jar of a blender all the ingredients and let them do the magic. It’s also so pretty to look at; you may not even want to take a sip.

Spicy Mezcal Mule

This spicy mezcal mule is a variation of the traditional Moscow mule. The recipe swaps out the vodka for Mexican mezcal and adds some spice in cayenne pepper. Here is the list of ingredients you need:

  •  2 oz Ilegal Mezcal
  •  1/2 oz lime juice
  •  Pinch of cayenne pepper
  •  1/2 cup chilled ginger beer
  •  Ice
  •  Garnish: lime wheel

It’s sharp, spicy, and the perfect way to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
